Transcript | [Letter 2] Castledamph October 29th 1896 Dear Brother I suppose you will be anxious to hear how the law went we were going to write last week but there was not much news so we thought we would wait till now It is all over and its not very serious after all there is no one sent to jail anyway we had to pay two pounds along with [our?] own expenses, there is a good deal of money spent on both sides and not much benefit I believe they would went to Jail only for Willie Gilkison he was the only witness they had and it was as lucky they [Page 2] had him he was steady and could not be changed by any one, but of course he will suffer for swearing the truth Sarah has not give up since, everyone she sees she tell [sic] them about the lies Willie Gilky [Gilkinson?] swore, only for him she says they were down in Derry, and I think that was all she wanted it was not money she cared for she would rather they had went to Derry but I think the law has made her a credit to all belonging to her, she can sware [swear?] plenty and so can Johnnie but I think Tommy will watch himself from this on and so will the rest there is no chance of escaping when you have people like them for plaintiff they will not lose for swearing a word or two [Page 3] We will send you the Tyrone constitution and you will see it all we have got [sic] the Sentinel but it does not give it correct nor a full account, Wet Weather continuing here still with the exceptions of a few days now and then, the corn is all gathered in in some style except Bradkeel and there is some out there yet We are putting in the hay today and I think we are last with it but it is nothing the worse yet We have the potatoes dug over in Uncle James land I suppose an acre or so; we have a very good crop of potatoes this year too and there is a good deal of people complaining' The surveyor was round yesterday and measured the stones for the road so now [Page 4] they have nothing to do but scatter them Halloweve is drawing near again there is not much talk about it here this year either only we are asked to a party down in Grange to-morrow eving [evening?] so I suppose it will be [Halloweve?] when we get back there are four of us going and two Gilkison [Gilkinson?] and the two Miss Campbells Mrs Dunbar and Mary was up here on Monday and stopped till they come from Omagh to hear the news Mary is going down home for Halloweve so then the [they?] thought to have a night fun when she was down We had a letter from you the morning after we wrote last we were very glad to hear that you were promoted to II Form and did not lose much by your mistake and we hope you will do well next year Eliza is giving you a history about Willie John so I will finish it |
