March 4th 1893 Dear Sister I now sit down to answer your letters which I received Jan 26 and March 1st I am glad to say that I am in extra good health and also to hear of you all being well I must apologize for not answering your letter sooner but I will try and give you a lot of news all at once and I will answer your letters from this out in good time We have had two cold months since Xmas snow has stayed here since Xmas and good [Page 2] sleighing horses had lots of work this winter skating only lasted a short while & snow covered up the ice but I tell you it was a cold time Dear Sister I am very sorry to hear of Liza [A?] Duncan I did not know what to think of it but hope it will be a lesson for the rest of her relations I see by your letter you have a second horse and I am glad to know it is doing so well There is no plowing going on here nor won't for two months I suppose I my [may?] tell you I am not working on the farm now I am in a mill in Woodslee I get $1.25 one dollars [sic] and 25 cents per day [Page 3] I did not like to try another year on the farm there is no danger with me at all I put the timber up in piles as it is sawed I work out in the yard so Mother need not trouble about it I am only working there to [sic] I get money enough for some higher busines [business?] I bought a fiddle on [Feb?] [2?] I sent to Toronto for it and had it sent subject to my approval I paid 21 dollars and 28 cents when I examined and [seen?] it pleased I suppose you will think it an enormous price One violin player told me it would be worth 10 dollars more in a year from now it was two dollars more but when I had it here it would took two [Page 4] from them to take it back so I wrote to them and told them what I would give them for it so they let me have it sooner than loose two dollars sending it here and two more sending it back so I had it that much less than it ought to be anyway but it is a grand fiddle I [sic] work twenty day [sic] before I have the price of it Dear Brother I now answer your letter two [too?] I am very glad to hear that the Band has started to learn again and I may say like Willie Young I hope to hear them play No Surrender as I did when you and I were boys I will make this do you this time I got my head examined by a phrenogolist [phrenologist?] and I want to tell you what he said [sic] |
