Transcript | [Letter 2] [Page 1] Castledamph 13 August 1891 Dear James I once more take the opportunity of letting you Know that we are all well at present. hoping that yous [you?] are all well thank God for all his Kindness to us all – while many around us have Been called to give their account Ann Ballantine survived a fue [few?] days longer after I last wrote But she was carried to her long home on the 4 August the funeral was large- Mary Jane Smyth is Dead and Buried after a Day or two illness She was carried to her long home on Monday 10th August So I suppose [suppose/] every letter I send takes some fresh Deaths with with [sic] it we then ought to be thankful for helth [health?] and strength and being spared in the land of the living and in the place of hope while so many is Being called away to meet their final Doom – May we all Be prepared for that important change. [Page 2] Dear James we joined [began?] the wireing [wiring?] on the 3rd August and got on with it well to [sic] we tourned [turned?] Down afore [before?] McConnells they offered some resistance on Friday the 7 But we wired away till night pooting [putting?] 6 wires on leaving it about 9 o clock the nixt [next?] morning Saturday when we went up the [there?] were 45 posts cutt [cut?] Down and Destroyed the [there?] were 4 yards betwixt [between?] every post we then went to the plumb [Plumbridge?] Barracks from that to Gortin and then immeditly [immediately?] Give notice of malicious injury the police went up to the place - then John McConnell Joseph McConnell James McNamee come [sic] up and said to the police we are the men that cutt [cut?] the wire then names was [sic] then taken Down we then went to Strabane on Monday to then [their?] attorney the [they?] will be took to the Binch [Bench - court?] first for cutting the wire and we are in for £10.0.0 of compensation at the presentment sessions - So we have some trouble and some hard work carying [carrying?] timber [Page 3] up to the top of the mountain mostly all oak the [there?] were 9 of us at it every Day – I will give you a map of where we have wired and where it is cut (we will wire no more till after the Binch [Bench - court?]- Dear James we dont go over much But we spake [speak?] to each other when we meet each other James Campbell summond [summoned?] Joseph for £4 9s 11d for trespass he settled on the Binch [Bench - court?] morning I cannt [can’t?] tell you what he gave him – we did not ask him to cut the lambs this year Robert McKelvey was up cutting his and he cut them all. John kept his that you give him uncut as the [they?] were good ones- John will write yous [you?] all a few lines himself so it will be a funny letter I think Sara Elkin has a young Son Saturday 10th August. They are all well all your friends in Eden and Castledamph is well - But the [there?] are [sic] such enmity now the one with the other they are [sic] hardly one speaking to the other But in wrath and its onely [only?] getting worse if the [they?] have to pay for the wire.
