Transcript | Augusta 27 May 1876 W. J. C. Allen Esq Belfas I have just recd [received?] a letter from Mr Smedley in London through his agt [agent?] in Charleston stating that the papers we had sent him in reference to the land matter did not cover the whole ground and he is preparing papers for us to sign before he can make a deposit which he states will be forwarded by first steamer, so far so good, but possibly he may be too exacting to suit our views I have suggested that his agt [agent?] here deposit $500 to defray expense of drawing deed which on being completed I would forwd [forward?] to the "Ulster Bank" to be surrendered on paying the whole purchase money less the five hundred dolls [dollars?] but don't know how this will meet his views At any rate I am determined that we shall hold our lands until there is a good prospect of getting paid If the matter is arranged to our satisfaction you shall hear from me Yours most sincerely Thos [Thomas?] W. Coskery. |
