Transcript | To William Steuart Trench Esqr [Esquire?] &c. &c. The Petition of John Devlin, formerly of Lisnagevragh. [Lisnaguiueragh?] Humbly Sheweth That your Petitioner has hitherto endeavoured to merit an honest industrious Character, He rented a small farm here, and became so much embarrassed, that he was served with an Ejectment Process, and was in consequence, obliged to sell his interest therein, for a mere trifle more than the Rent then due on it. He is by Trade a Brogue-maker, [shoemaker?] and reared a numerous family, which are now dispersed thro' [through?] the world, and himself one of the most desolate beings in existence, without any means of amelioration He has One Daughter in America, on whom he could depend for comfort in his old age, but having no means of Conveying himself to where She lives there, He has been advised to submit his case to your kind consideration and implore your Honor [Honour?] to assist him to reach to his Daughter, where his last moments would be employed in praying for your long life and prosperity. And he will ever pray. John Devlin Feby [February?] 21st 1844 John Devlin of Lis[negiverah?] [Lisnaguiueragh?] (America) March 23/44 [1844?] |
