[Ontario?] Letter 1: - Office of D.M.Eagle Warden Municipal Council County of Essex Sandwich, May 7 1927 Ontario Dear Jim:- Received your cable and was very pleased to hear you are alive and kicking. The very day your cable arrived Mrs E. and I started out on an 800 mile motor trip to Toronto, Lindsay, St Catharines etc in our new Hupp Sedan. That delayed complying with your request until our return over a week later. The Monday following our return I went up to Mrs Maxwells and took a look at your maps and books Seeing I could not carry the maps in my car I went immediately to The Windsor Truck & storage Co. Ltd and gave them the order to get all you had at Mrs Maxwells' and all you had here and properly crate same for the long trip to Newtown- Stewart. They made an excellent job of the crating as I inspected it before allowing them to ship same. The cartage, collecting books and taking same to depot, the crating and supplying crates and the prepaid freight to the C.P.R. right to Newtown Stewart [Newtownstewart?] amounted to thirty one 26/100 dollars ($31.26). I ordered to-day. The Border Cities Star to be sent to your address for one year from May 7,1927 to May 7,1928 and paid them ten dollars ($10) for same. So you owe me Jimmy, forty one dollars and twenty six cents($41.26). I have paid both accounts and will forward you receipts if you wish same as soon as I receive your Plumbridge post office order, presuming that is your easiest way to remit. So much for business. How has the world been using Jimmy? I have often wondered how things were going since you reached your native soil. Mrs E. & I have also wondered how Tom's wife and your sister were. Remember us to them and your brother. McMaster fell on his feet lately. He sold his home for $40000 and so is retiring from teaching in June and taking his superannuation. He and Mrs. Mac do not even intend to keep house. They are going to board or have rooms and get their meals out. Things are about the same with us. We were golfing this morning (Saturday) and manage (sic) to make the usual rounds. On July 1st we sail again for the old land. I am conducting a party for The Stratford Tourist Co. of New York. and am of course taking Jess along. Jess' sister the music teacher, is also going with us. The itinerary is pretty good. I am enclosing a copy of same. Now Jim I shall be very pleased to hear what you are doing and all about things in general when you reply. With best regards Yours Sincerely D. M. Eagle |
