Dear cousin
I was more than glad to hear
from you I have had some trials in my
path in the past few years & neglected
writing to you Aunt Jane died 23 July
I have 3 children living & one dead
it died last April you know Aunt Jane
had a Paralytic shock Six years ago
she was I might say completely helpless
for the last 4 years & could not be left
alone it is 2 years past last June
since I was out of her sight

or had a Hat on my head yet time seemed
to move quickly on I felt it was my duty
to care her [sic] so long as we took on us
the responsibility she was in her 81 year.
Say James you know Albany is on the
Strait way from New York but here
in taking the train at Grand Central
42 St you go right through to Montreal
we are only about 60 miles from Montreal
City Albany is a very nice place the
Train generally stops quite a few
minutes at it Constable is 3 miles
from us that is the place you would
get off there is a few who carry
Passengers out through the country &
attends to the Trains as the [they?] come

or if you write & let us know Willie
will meet you our address is changed
that is why I was so long in writing
to you I only got your letter yesterday
we have free delivery now & every farmer
has a US [United States?] male [mail?]
Box we get bus male [mail?] every day at
our door your letter lay at Trout River
in the Office since you sent it Dear
cousin if you are disapointed
[disappointed?] now dont let it Prevent
you visiting here do try & come any time
you can get away we would be more than
glad to see you Malone is onely [only?]
9 miles from here Willies Brother that
married Uncle Thomas [Thomas’s?] Bella

lives in Malone they have 3 fine
children 2 girls one 15 & 17 & a boy
19 they was [sic] here a short time
ago & Bella had a long enquiry about
your Father & Mother & all the Family
say do write to us & come & visit
it would do you good & no dout [doubt?]
be interesting to you I will write you
a longer letter next time as I want
you [sic] get this soon as I can is
your Sister over here or at home is
your folks all well. Your friend Maggie
